I had just noticed an old comment from you saying you didn't have have many photos in June to choose your submission. Famous last words huh? And congratulations on the mention in the Chicago Tribune too. A glowing and very accurate description!

Hi Bron,

I am a Kiwi who has been living in the US for almost five years, and I am due to return to NZ early next year. This year a love of food (whether it is to cook or read about) seems to have come out of nowhere. Truthfully I think a seed was planted a long time ago when "Nigella Bites" came on tv in 2000, but it didn't grow until this year when I really needed something to distract me from the constant analysing writing a thesis in international relations demanded of me. And now, today, I have stumbled across a couple of food blogs, and yours, being that you are a Kiwi, really attracts me. I, of course, do not dream of setting up a store or anything like that, but I am interested in setting up my own blog and connecting to those with a similar love of food, especially since none of my friends have the obsession I have developed. I would really like to know if you could spare the time to write to me about recommendations for setting up a blog and where to go from there (i.e. is there a particular site that you recommend I attach myself to so that food bloggers can write to me also?). Thanks for your time; I'm going to check out "Cuisine du monde" now :-)

I've emailed you re: getting started and setting up a food blog.
However just to recap and for anyone else reading...
I recommend that it's probably easiest if you start out on http://www.blogger.com/start
which is Google's popular blogware.
Just follow the simple setup and start writing... they also enable you to post photos by hosting them for you.

A couple of food blogging sites to keep you in the know are
http://foodblogscool.blogspot.com
http://ismyblogburning.com

Check out the beginners guide, calendars and such, as these will also keep you informed of events we food bloggers enjoy taking part in.
Other than that I have an extensive list of great food blogs on the the righthand side of my blog. Wander through, comment and introduce yourself.
