WILD Edible Chameleon...
Cupcakes!

Unfortunately I haven't had much luck with one thing and another this past month, I'll spare you all the unhappy details, lets just say bacon fat in my eye was only one of several disasters. As I don't want to turn my blog into a negative whinge pit, I will leave it behind now and hope that June is more kind to me!

The Edible Reptile entry I had hoped to share went belly up, when the Gourmet foods place that promised some crocodile tail fillet, didn't come through. I had to go to plan B, then when I ran out of time on to plan C, and even plan C was looking dicey with the smell of the first egg I cracked. With fresher eggs on I soldiered on with my "great plans." Sadly these too, were not what I had hoped or envisaged.

Yet, with May all but gone, I have bitten my lip and posted them anyway. I'm not terribly proud of them, and more than a little shy to show the photos, safe to say I will not be sharing the recipe, just these few photos.
If you are confused to what exactly you are looking at, I understand, truly I do!

Let me explain, these were meant to be a type of Chameleon, and naturally an edible type, based on a cupcake recipe baked inside a rainbow flat bottomed ice cream cone.

Chameleons are an amazing species of Lizard which are able to morph and change their skin color. (Hence the different coloured ice cream cones.) For Chameleons, changing color is an expression of their physical and physiological mood, it is also an important type of communication. The name "chameleon" means "Earth lion" and is derived from the Greek words chamai (on the ground, on the earth) and leon (lion).

Chameleons have incredibly long tongues, often longer than their own body length! They also have very interesting and distinctive eyes. They have a spherical eyelid as in the upper and lower eyelids are joined, with only a pinhole large enough for the pupil to see through. They can rotate and focus each eye separately to observe two different objects simultaneously. This in effect gives them a full 360-degree arc of vision around their body.

A exceptionally WILD creature for an exceptionally WILD event!

Enjoy!
