This sounds like a wonderful tradition for you and your family to take a trip to this place for an old-fashioned steam-train ride in July. The ride must have beautiful vistas. I like that recipe that you posted. Is ginger beer a favorite drink there?

  • Thank you Grace, the trip certainly does have beautiful scenery, we ride through vineyards and beautiful limestone hills with all natural sculpture. Sadly it's all a bit hard to photograph with the jerking of the train. Ginger beer is indeed popular in NZ and it's especially customary for picnics.

    Hi there Bron,

I've come your way via DL's blog.

As a keen train traveler and a Kiwi (though I live in Japan) I was really interested to see this post about the Weka Express-love the photos of the plush looking interior etc etc-as I'd never heard of it before. It's a trip I'd like to do when I'm next in the South Island.

Look forward to reading through your recipes and your other posts.

    TK
